AAUA Students urged to live meaningful lives
Members of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) chapter of Integrity Icons Organisation (IIO), a student humanist movement, have been advised to live meaningful lives.
Mr Richard Akinmulegun, staff adviser to the organisation, gave the advice during its first local conference. According to him, students who indulged in anti-social activities would have themselves to blame during and after their student days. He, therefore, encouraged them to devote more time to their academics over other activities.
In an address, the chapter president, Eromora Olorunwa, said: "Since the primary cause of the organisation is to revolutionise the debauched value system ideologically, culturally and socio-politically to build a new Nigeria where rule of law, popular people’s course and humanist democracy are established, members of the organisation should lend their voices for the liberation of the oppressed in the society, advocate for social justice, not to follow the multitude to commit evil as well as shun all forms of vices".
Also at the event, one of the students, George Oladeji, who presented a paper on Examination Malpractice, Effect and Remedies, frowned on the increasing rate of the practice. He noted that examination malpractice, which started from homes, culminated to election malpractice and other malpractices in our society. Among other recommendations, he stressed that students at all levels should be enlightened on the consequences of examination malpractices; and government should sensitise all citizens on basic ethical values of self worth, dignity of labour, integrity and personal responsibility.
